The David Krut Workshop (DKW) is the centre of David Krut Project’s artistic collaborations.
David Krut Workshop is located in downtown Johannesburg, at Arts on Main, a mixed-use creative hub in Johannesburg’s urban neighbourhood, the Maboneng Precinct. The premises consists of artists’ studios, galleries, workshops, eateries, and various office and retail spaces, offering visitors a range of events, arts and merchandise. It is a unique environment for the city’s creative community to develop and share ideas and engage in multiple innovative experiences in one venue.
DKW is adjacent to William Kentridge, Danger Gevaar Ingozi (DGI), Mary Sibande and Mikhael Subotzky’s studios. The premises also houses The Centre for the Less Good Idea.
DKW first opened on Jan Smuts Avenue in 2002, when David Krut facilitated in bringing Master Printers from abroad to initiate skills transfer. A selection of special papers and printmaking materials was also imported to assist in developing the printmaking arena in South Africa. DKW was run by Master Printer Jillian Ross from 2004 until 2020 when she returned to Canada and opened Jillian Ross Print collaborative print studio.
