Opening May 14, 6-8PM in our West Chelsea Building space:

David Krut Artspace (New York) and Kalashnikovv Gallery (Johannesburg, South Africa) invite you to a collaborative exhibition at David Krut Artspace in Chelsea, combining our efforts to bring together a conversation about contemporary South African art across various media.

David Krut has spent over twenty-five years collaborating with South African artists and promoting their work in both South Africa and the United States. The South African Artists in New York program at our Chelsea Artspace celebrates this longstanding goal and functions as a manifestation of it.

We are delighted to collaborate with Kalashnikovv in order to present this more expansive look at contemporary South African Art. This group show exemplifies the value of cross-continental collaboration, highlighting how artists, galleries, and spaces can unite to amplify voices from the African continent. By pooling our resources and expertise, this exhibition underscores the importance of collaboration not only in a space like David Krut Workshop, but also in the gallery, where ideas are shared with a wider audience. Featuring a curated selection of both established and exciting young South African contemporary artists, this exhibition offers compelling insight into the ever-evolving landscape of contemporary African art.

Anna van der Ploeg, “Over and over in later years when she told this story she marvelled at his ability to eviscerate coincidence,” Oil on cotton, 39.4 x 22.4 in. (100.1 x 56.9 cm)

Kalashnikovv Gallery is a contemporary fine art gallery located in Johannesburg and Cape Town, with a project space dedicated to providing a platform to both emerging and established South African artists. Since they share our goal of discovering and nurturing new artists with fresh visions, who often need even stronger support to gain recognition beyond the African continent, we are delighted to be collaborating.
