Collaboration History
Hemali Khoosal began collaborating with the David Krut Workshop in 2021.
Biography
Hemali Khoosal graduated with distinction from Wits School of Art (2019) and received the Young Womxn’s Studio Bursary (2020-2021) at The Bag Factory. She was also the winner of the Emerging Artist’s Portraiture Development Programme (2018), a recipient of the International Spoleto Award (2019), a runner-up for the Wits Young Artist Award (2019), and a nominee for the Video Art Awards in Italy (2019).
Khoosal is a socially engaged maker best known for her award-winning video installations surrounding identity and belonging. Khoosal’s work centres around working and collaborating with people, doing research and interviewing people, whom she sees as both subjects as well as collaborators. Khoosal enjoys exploring how humans perceive themselves in relation to others. Through a variety of mediums, she hopes to create work that may hold space for people to find common ground in their seemingly disconnected experiences and internal worlds. She is interested in gesture, language, and intergenerationally inherited knowledge.
