DKW visit Open Window Institute

On Monday 31 January the David Krut Workshop (DKW) printers Sbongiseni Khulu, Kim-Lee Loggenberg, Sarah Judge, Roxy Kaczmarek accompanied by gallery assistant Melissa Waters, made the unusual commute from the Joburg located printshop up north, across the high veld, to Pretoria!

Lecturers Nina Torr  (Visual Communication School), Zinhle Zulu (Visual Communication School), Carmen Koetje (Visual Communication School), Maaike Bakker (Visual Communication School), and Andrew Gould (Film Arts department) at The Open Window Institute had recently received some exciting new printing presses and equipment and invited the team to come and take a look and give advice on using the various machines.

Sbongiseni Khulu walked them through relief printing with Linocut and Letterpress. Sarah Judge took the team through pronto plate lithography and Kim-Lee Loggenberg demo-ed intaglio plate printing, while Roxy Kaczmarek worked with Andrew to get an Original Heidelberg Windmill press into action.
