Highlighting the organic nature of developing research and exhibitions, Rhett Martyn introduces his project ‘1:10 Modernist Plunder: The New Constructivists’ as the culmination of an 8-month long research project. Exposing the process driven directives of his art making, Martyn makes uses of various devices such as a 1 to10 scale architectural model, printmaking, and sculpture to highlight his latest research obsession with that of a prominent Mozambican architect, political activist and art collector João Mangual. Mangual, an avid collector of Russian modernist sculpture of the “New Constructivists”  was mysteriously found dead in Johannesburg in 1978.

Martyn will open up the gallery space, unpacking his findings and sharing with audiences the structure behind his research and art making as he uncovers the details and mysteries of João Mangual. Martyn will continue to use the gallery space over this time as a research and art making facility to work on this assignment.

Please join us for the closing event on Thursday 26th July at 6pm for a final walkabout with the artist.

The exhibition has been extended until the 28th of July.
