The past week American Master Printer and Director of Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, Phil Sanders and his wife, Sarah (also an artist) visited DKW (Arts on Main).
The DKW (Arts on Main)-team has been working on a number of plates of Deborah Bell – but most notable is the printing of new editions & multiples for Parsifal. This new body of work (consisting of a three copper plates and and 6 different layers of colour) shows a range of techniques, including drypoint, spitbite aquatint, burnishing and sugarlift and handpainting. The individual plates are being printed on their own as well as the composite image.
Because of the size and the level of complexity involved in printing Phil Sanders, Neo Mahlasela, Kim-Lee Loggenberg and Jill Ross were involved in the printing process.
Canadian Master Printer, Jill Ross hand-painted the plates.
In between printing and hand-painting they still got to ask Phil Sanders some questions about other projects they are working on.
Sarah Sanders also printed a few watercolour monotypes while visiting DKW (Arts on Main)
