Boulders Beach by Brian Shure
Boulders Beach by Brian Shure is currently on show at DKNY

As we wave goodbye to our second set of Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) interns, we reflect on the wonderful connection that exists between the RISD Prints Department and DKW. The connection began after a visit by Brian Shure to South Africa. During his visit, we invited him to spend time at the workshop where he made a series of plates with master printer Jillian Ross. Shure subsequently editioned the plates at RISD which are currently part of the summer exhibition at David Krut New York (DKNY).

Brian Shure received a BA from Antioch College, and worked as a professional printer until 1994.  In addition to working in his own studio in Pawtucket Rhode Island, he has made prints at Tokugenji Press in Nara, Japan, Rongbaozhai in Beijing, and this recent project at David Krut Projects at Arts on Main in Johannesburg. He has taught at Brown and Cornell Universities, has given workshops in the U.S., Japan, and Mexico, and has been teaching in the Printmaking Department at the Rhode Island School of Design since 1996.  He has authored two books on chine collé, and is a founding member of the international Printmaking Organization Alliance, based at the Printmaking Museum in Shenzhen, China.
