On 20 November the David Krut Bookstore hosted the successful launch of the first booklet in the Culture Set series – Culture Set: Gastronomy. The series is published as collaboration between David Krut Publishing (DKP) and the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) and centres on themes linked to the programming of IFAS. Culture Set follows on from the Skill Set series and TAXI Art Book Educational Supplements for which DKP has become well-known.
This first booklet is entirely dedicated to gastronomy, following on from IFAS Week of Taste which took place earlier this year (19- 31 May) in eight cities around South Africa and Lesotho. The program involved 5 French and 8 local chefs with ‘real food’ as the focus of week. The programme also included workshops open to the public, lessons in schools, ‘gastronomic dinners’ and a culinary photo contest. The booklet condenses snippets from the week, including menus from the dinners, recipes from the chefs, as well as information about projects that are changing the way we think about food, and a ‘how-to, for creating your own vegetable garden in the city.
The David Krut Bookstore was filled to capacity and guests were treated to various French delicacies by gourmet Chef Yohann Saumande of The Patisserie.
IFAS and DKP have already started working on the second booklet in the series – look out for Culture Set: Design in 2015!
