Come and join us at the 2011 Food, Wine and Design Fair

25 – 27 November, Hyde Park, Booth #4

Art and design have always had an uneasy relationship in the view of many observers when, in reality, these two fields should be seen as two different approaches to creativity and expression. David Krut Projects is attempting this demystification through the incorporation of design and designers into the realm of the fine arts. This approach is ongoing and multi-faceted, moving from exhibitions of graphics from local designers in Johannesburg, Cape Town and New York, and the avant-garde fashion of Issey Miyake, through furniture and objects, and on to architectural forums and extensive book design and publishing within South African art, design and architecture.

At the 2011 Food, Wine and Design Fair David Krut Projects will present the planchests and custom-made furniture of Cape Town-based artisan-carpenter Helder Torrao. Each piece is designed and built by hand to exacting functional and aesthetic standards. Initially presented at the 2010 Design Indaba, Torrao’s furniture will be exposed for the first time to a Johannesburg audience at the Food, Wine and Design Fair. Alongside these beautifully crafted objects will be a selection of artworks from local and international artists, including the sculptural food prints of Boo Ritson, for those with an interest in lighting there are the espresso lamps by Cape Town-based design Piers Mansfield-Scaddon and more lamps byBrendan Copestake, as well as the Temori Dolls, and a range books that present design as an art, and designers as artists. Visit us at Booth 4 from November 25th – 27th 2011.
