Domestic Scenes 31: Seated Man in Waistcoat with Lamp and Telephone, 1980
This is certainly a memory or an attitude from the plsy Security, in which the character i played wore my brother-in-law’s pinstripe suit. He sits at an office desk, trying to proclaim the virtues of the company. The light is almost in its simplest form: a sugar-lift line drawing of its support. Lights in this series are almost always depicted from the side rather than from the top, as they often are in later works (William Kentridge, 2021: 76)
