Diane Victor recently installed one of her candle smoke drawings on glass entitled ‘Brief Lives: Pig’ at a client’s home.
The original idea for the work was to create an ethereal and atmospheric image through the representation of naturalistic, ghostlike smoke portraits that become integrated with their background. The smoke drawings on glass are protected by another glass layer, held apart by small glass strips that both seal the work and prevents the protective layer touching the smoke drawing. The drawing therefore has no clear edge or frame and is suspended in the center of the space, from the reinforced concrete ceiling, so that the background becomes part of the work.
