Limited Edition Print Pop Up Shop at START – St Theresa’s Art Festival

The David Krut Workshop is excited to be participating in START – ST Theresa’s Art Festival as part of Art Paper Planes’ Limited Edition Print Pop Up Shop. As part of the Print Pop up at START, a variety of editioned and unique work by over 30 artists will be on show.

Artists include: Deborah Bell, Chad Cordeiro and Nathaniel Sheppard III, Rhett Martyn, William Kentridge, Pebofatso Mokoena, Maja Maljevic, Colbert Mashile, Keneilwe Mokeona, Nina Torr, Mary Wafer, and Diane Victor.

TALK – Master Printer Jillian Ross talks about the nature of collaboration and the print workshop. Ross will address questions like: What is a print? What is a collaborative printworkshop? Why are prints valuable? Why do artists make them? Why are they limited? What is a reproduction? What is a Master Printer? Why is a print a great way to start collecting art?

The team that has brought so many successful Limited Edition Print Pop Up Shops to the Joburg public will be collaborating with St Teresa’s to make a fabulous selection of collectible affordable fine art available. Watch this space for details!

START aims to bridge gaps in the art world, and to welcome more and more people in. It’s a platform for young art collectors looking for affordable art, prints, illustrations and ceramics. It’s an opportunity for students seeking guidance on how to pursue a career in art, be it as a curator, an auctioneer, a buyer or an artist. It’s a space for families wanting to foster an appreciation for art with their children but find that the existing galleries and conventions don’t always cater to their needs. It’s a place to focus on women in art and offer spaces for lesser known creators and unheard voices.

On Saturday 8 September 2018 START takes visitors on a journey through various art mediums and stages of the art world – from paint to virtual reality, and from production to curating. There’ll be workshops in printmaking, screen-printing, etching, origami, watercolour, graffiti, clay, and virtual reality painting with tilt brush (to name just a few) and a pop up print exhibitions by Art, Paper, Plane including David Krut Projects, Warren Editions, Artist Proof Studios, Sara Aimee Verity, Bevan de Wet and Mary Sibande.

Our partnership with The Keyes Art Mile and the proximity to the established galleries in Rosebank makes St Teresa’s the ideal location to host an event of this nature. Here, families and a younger audience can share their appreciation for art during the cultural highlight of the year, Art Week Joburg.

We hope this will merely be the beginning, of a festival which, year by year, grows – becoming bigger, more inclusive and more fertile for students, families, budding collectors and aspiring artists to cultivate their interest in art and to watch it, inevitably, grow.
