Korien Sander is a printmaker based in Johannesburg. In the absence of formal art education, her current practice is to learn by experimenting. These experiments use what is already known and whatever materials she has on hand; and are attempts to make meaning of the unknown and out of reach in the private and public spaces she inhabits. Silkscreen is the first printmaking technique she has layered onto a lifelong love of textiles and thread; and she is current experimenting with monotypes.
Korien says: “Printmaking includes such a variety of techniques which both allows and encourages exploration. And despite the planning and methodical approaches which the techniques I have gotten to know require, the outcome remains uncertain and a surprise when a print is finally revealed.
