“Paradise by Night, by Chris Ofili is a portfolio of ten colour lithographs. This body of work was Ofili’s response to a group of young poets individually commissioned to speculate on the theme of a tropical paradise experienced in the hours of darkness. Following his move to Trinidad in 2005, Ofili’s work developed a more simplified colour palette and use of pared-down forms, exploring Trinidad’s landscape and mythology through flowing lines and intense colours. Harmonising spirituality, music, high art and folk art through a series of colour-saturated and stylised lithographs, each work appears as a hallucinatory vision arising from contemporary literature and history.”
