Gina Waldman is a mixed media artist who completed her Masters in Fine Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2003. Waldman makes mostly mixed media work that explores excess, collecting and consumerism. Waldman often uses “woman work” techniques like embroidery and tapestry and more recently is exploring the importance of play. Waldman has had numerous solo shows and has taken part in many group shows locally and abroad. She lives and works in Johannesburg. She currently works as a freelancer in the creative industry.

“The work primarily is about reflections in water. I have been making work about water, tears, seascapes and light for a while now. Water primarily is about emotion for me and I find being with water and painting water a very cathartic process. The seeming stillness of the water then a frenetic reflection is exciting to draw.” – Gina Waldman.
