We are pleased to present a series of ten prints by Penny Siopis relating to a larger body of work by the artist, which included paintings and installations based on the idea and experience of ‘shame’ as both a public phenomenon and a psychological condition. This series of prints images ‘shame’ as an amalgam of figural and textual forms and, rather than conveying a specific narrative, attempts to register emotion by way of image associations.
Created in collaboration with New York-based master printer, Randy Hemminghaus during his third visit to South Africa in 2004, these works were printed at the David Krut Print Workshop by Timothy Foulds, Syneth Nyandena and Jillian Ross.
