Studied at the Institut National de la Photographie. Assistant to Maurice Tabard, master of still life and solarisation. Photo-reporter for Paris Match. Features on The Beatles, Deneuve, Piaf, Churchill. Portraits of actors for 20th Century Fox.

1965-2003

Fashion photography : Marie-Claire, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Femme, L’Officiel. Advertising photography & films : Pommery, Cristal St Louis, Audi, Porsche, Citroën, Peugeot, Renault, Nina Ricci, Ungaro, Scherrer, Givenchy, Hanae Mori, Jean-Charles de  Castelbajac, Armani, Charles Jourdan, La Perla, Blanc Bleu.

1973-1980

Theatre : actor, director – works with Peter Brook, Yoshi Oïda, Andréas Voutzinas. Acts in ‘Peer Gynt’ and ‘Brand’ by Ibsen ; ‘Michael Kohlhaas’ by Von Kleist. Starts ‘Théâtre des Cinquantes’ with Claude Brasseur, Delphine Seyrig. Directs documentary film ‘L’Atelier’ on the Actors’ Studio – New York (45 min, Colour). ‘L’Atelier’ is housed in the permanent collection of the Pompidou Centre, Paris.

Publishes ‘Regards sur l’Afrique du Sud’ (Editions Nouveau Monde), with poems by Mazisi Kunene (translated into French).  At the Bastille Day celebrations, the book is presented to Nelson Mandela by the Mayor of Paris, Jean Tiberi

2001

Publishes ‘The Jo’Burgers’ (Protea Book House), prefaced by Don Mattera. ‘The Jo’Burgers’ exhibition at Pretoria Art Museum (July & August). ‘The Jo’Burgers’ exhibition tours Alliance Française Centres throughout Africa.

2002-2003

Publishes ‘Nude Landscape’ (Protea Book House). ‘Nude Landscape’ exhibition at Photoza Gallery, Rosebank, Johannesburg (February – March). ‘Looking at South Africa’ exhibition at Rau Art Gallery, Johannesburg (June)

2004

Publishes ‘Looking at South Africa : 1994 – 2004’ (de Mervelec & Aurouet). A series of ‘Looking at South Africa’ exhibitions held throughout Africa (Alliance Française Centres) and at Zuva Art Gallery, Melrose Arch, Johannesburg (February – March)

‘The South African Ballet Theatre’ exhibition – Gesseau Art, Craighall Park, Johannesburg (May). Publishes ‘The South African Ballet Theatre’, (In Camera Art Publications), launched at the opening night of the SABT production of ‘La Traviata’ at the State Theatre, Pretoria, in the presence of Jean Felix-Paganon, Ambassador of France and Tito Mboweni, Governor of the Reserve Bank & Patron of SABT
